5 eco-friendly ways to decorate this festive season

Forget the plastic tree this year, check out our top tips for taking a more sustainable approach to decorating your home.

1 - Go natural
When it comes to decorating for the festive season, instead of purchasing mass-produced decorations, try taking a walk in nature. Collect fallen branches, pinecones, and other natural elements to create a rustic and charming centrepiece. Enhance the centrepiece with beeswax candles in glass votives for a warm and inviting glow. As a thoughtful party favour for your sustainable Christmas dinner, give your guests a small potted plant each.

2 - Upcycle old ornaments
Breathe new life into old ornaments that are past their best instead of buying new ones. Create a wreath from old baubles or revamp them by spraying them with silver or gold spray paint, or fill a glass bowl or jar with them to create a charming table or shelf display. You can also create Christmas crackers or gift boxes by using your Pure Planet Club empty toilet roll tubes.

3 - Use energy-efficient lighting
Illuminate your home with energy-efficient LED lights instead of traditional incandescent bulbs. LED lights use significantly less energy and last longer, reducing both your electricity bill and environmental impact. Consider using solar-powered outdoor lights to decorate your outdoor space, further minimising your carbon footprint.

4 - Go for sustainable wrapping and gift giving
Extend the eco-friendly ethos to your gift wrapping. Opt for reusable gift bags, fabric wraps, or even old newspapers instead of traditional wrapping paper. Encourage your family and friends to reuse or recycle their gift packaging. For a personal touch, create handmade gift tags from recycled materials or seed paper that can be planted after use. 5 - Create a nature-inspired wreath or garland
Add to the festive mood of your home by making wreaths and garlands inspired by nature. Use pine branches, eucalyptus, or dried citrus slices to create beautiful and aromatic decorations. Natural wreaths can be composted after use, providing a sustainable alternative to artificial decorations.
