Six crafty ways to re-use toilet paper rolls

Instead of throwing them into the recycling, there’s a raft of ways to re-use your Pure Planet Club empty toilet roll tubes. Read on and get creative!
While most of us probably throw our old empty toilet roll tubes out without a second thought, there are plenty of ways to reuse them, from creating bird feeders to storage containers for your electrical cords. Try some of these projects on a rainy day when you’re stuck indoors, or when the kids are bored and need something to keep them busy.

1 - Make a desk organiser
If your pencils, pens and other office supplies are taking over your desk, consider reusing empty toilet paper rolls to get organised. Simply spray-paint as many rolls as you like with a fun colour or decorate them with paper, then stick them together side-by-side and adhere to a cardboard base to keep them steady and upright.

2 - Create a bird feeder
This is a super simple project that provides your feathered friends with a snack, and hours of entertainment for you as you watch them feasting. Slather some peanut butter on an empty toilet roll tube, then roll the tube in birdseed. Hang your bird feeder from a tree or your porch. Place near large branches so birds can access them easily.

3 - Get your cords under control
Is your office desk, drawer or kitchen bench a mess of tangled cords? To keep charging cords in order, stand an empty toilet roll upright, decorate with paper or paint, then fold and insert your cable inside – perfect for a home office station. Add labels to each holder so you know what they contain.

4 - Make tube binoculars
This is a super-cute project to do with kids. Glue two empty toilet paper tubes together then decorate the tubes with paint, paper or fabric (felt is great). Attach a string for a neck strap and use for bird-watching or an outdoor adventure.

5 - Make seed starters
A great project for keen gardeners. Create tiny toilet paper roll pots by cutting each empty toilet roll tube in half, then cut four half-inch slits on one end. Fold the four flaps over each other to close off one end of the tube. Fill the ‘pot’ with soil, plant one seed in each pot and add a little water. Once the seed has sprouted, you can plant directly into a garden bed or planter.

6 - Make Christmas crackers (or gift boxes)
Empty toilet roll tubes are perfect for creating your own homemade Christmas crackers. Simple add little gifts into the centre, cut decorative paper so that it fits around the tube and tape down, then twist the ends to secure. This is also a great way to wrap small presents.
