Four ways to re-use your coffee grounds
More than over 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day around the world. That’s a lot of coffee, and a lot of waste too if the grinds are not disposed of thoughtfully. The good news is, there are plenty of ways you can reuse your coffee grinds around your home and garden. Here’s a few tips to get you started.1 - Add them to your compost
Sprinkle your coffee grinds into your compost heap. Coffee helps your compost break down faster and also neutralises that stinky smell.2 - Make your own coffee scrub
Coffee scrubs are great for exfoliating the skin and it’s easy to create your own homemade version. Simple mix ½ cup coffee grinds, ½ cup brown sugar and ½ cup of coconut oil and mix well. You can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oil, such as peppermint or lavender. Keep in an airtight jar and use in the shower to exfoliate, then rinse well.3 - Use them as a fridge deodoriser
If your fridge is smelling a bit pongy, pop a small dish of coffee grinds on a shelf to help neutralise any odours.4 - Keep bugs at bay
Ditch the insect spray and sprinkle coffee grinds around your plants to stop ants, snails and other bugs from munching on them. They dislike having to crawl across the gritty texture of the grinds.“Never doubt that a small group o thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
– Margaret Mead.
